anna andrejew - artist-researcher, writer, permaculturalist.

My artistic research explores the physical, emotional, and material dimensions of spaces, giving voice to the in-between, often undefined areas that resist fixed outcomes.

drawing on my exile heritage and background in ethnographic research, i develop a peripheral gaze, attuned to attuned to the margins and overlooked narratives. i examine the traces of (post-)extractivism, reimagining landscapes as co-creators in ecological and political stories. my work spans various media, including installations, photography, text, performance, and workshops.

based in the hague, the netherlands.

i am currently focused on moving matters/fallow landscapes (2024–ongoing), an artistic research project that explores the potential for regeneration in post-extraction landscapes—spaces shaped by the end of human extraction activities and the return of ecological processes.

through visual work, writing, and speculative mapping, the project reconnects with these landscapes, uncovering their complex histories and cultural memories. merging ecology, anthropology, and visual arts, this research investigates how more-than-human forces—such as plant growth, material decay, and geological shifts—interact with human cultural residues.

the project includes workshops where participants collaboratively create counter-maps and narratives, revealing both visible and invisible impacts of past extractive practices. ultimately, this work envisions post-extractive futures, where landscapes serve as co-performers in ecological and political narratives, highlighting the agency of all actors—human and more-than-human—in shaping these spaces.

i employ an ecofeminist lens and multispecies perspectives. my previous researches included themes connected to soil, water bodies (commissioned by NWO), the non-binary/more-than-human, our perception of time and expanding our notion of photography (beyond its humancentric conventions).
